4-H NewsPublished Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe summer began very busy for the Nevada County 4-H Corral Club. The District 4-H Horse Show was held on June 13 and 14 at Hope Fair Park Arena. The show opened with each club presenting its 4-H flag. Those participating the Coral Club were Logan and Brody Joyce and Cole and Justin Hillery. Riders had the opportunity to compete in 26 events during the 2-day long program. The 4-H State Horse Show was July 14 at Pine Bluff. 4-H clubs from all over the state were represented. Those from Nevada County participating were Justin Hillery, bringing home fourth place in senior pole bending, fifth place in senior flag race and eigth place in senior stake race. Cole Hillery brought home fifth place in the junior flag race and 10th place in junior stake race. A goat tying and calf roping clinic was held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds for the members on July 27. Guest speakers were Vanna Dickerson of Hope; Scott Thomason of Prescott and Bret and Alidya McKiever of Rafter M Stables of Fulton. Those participating were Logan Joyce, Morgan Ridling, Emily and Lauren Byrd and Justin and Cole Hillery. On July 16 and August 13 a and August 27 the 4-H and NBHA sponsored a high point barrel series at the Fairgrounds. The club will conclude its summer activities with several members qualifying for the Arkansas Sate Horse Show to be held Labor Day weekend at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock.
