Lady Tracksters Burn Up Cinders

Prescott's seventh and eighth grade track teams have been burning up the cinders.

Coach Cecily Butler said the squads, along with the senior thinclads, have been running quite a bit lately and doing a good job.

In the recent Cub Relays, K. Sorrells was second in the high jump with a leap of 4-6.

The 800 relay team was fourth with a time of 11:49. The team consists of Jennifer Thornton, T. Sims, Sorrells and Bridgette Peters.

Peters also finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 2:56.

But, the mile relay team of Laura Beth Williams, Sorrells, Nicole Martin and T. Williamson won with a 4:36 mark.

Jessica Hildebrand was sixth in the long jump at the Scrapper Relays on Thursday, April 17, in Nashville. She jumped 14-10.5.

C. Harris had a personal best time in the 100 meters at 15.3, while Hildebrand won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.5.

Lakeshia Stuckey was also in the 100 meter hurdles, turning in a personal best of 19.8.

The 400 meter relay team of Hildebrand, Harris, Stuckey and Gladies Gulley, was sixth with a 55.47 mark.

Hildebrand was burning up the track as she also finished third in the 300 hurdles in 53.70. Jennifer Adams had a personal best in the event at 58.62.

Mandy Cox and Lindsey Powell had personal bests in the 800 meter run as well. Coxes time was 3:11, while Powell covered the distance in 3:12.

Friday, the junior team finished third in the Genoa Central Relays.

D. Williamson was fifth in the discuss with a toss of 63-5. Martin was fifth in the long jump, leaping 13-9. Traci Graham was fourth in the long jump, sailing 14-01/2.

Sorrells had her hands full running in the distance events. She was third in the mile run with a time of 14:45. Sorrells came in fifth in the mile at 6:52. Samantha Clark turned in a personal best in the mile at 7:59.

Sorrells also participated in the high jump, finishing third with a jump of 4-6. Butler said she may have won, but this event followed on the heels of the mile run.

Martin came in fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.7, a personal best. Graham was sixth in the high jump at 4-4.

Leslie Woods finished fourth in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:13, while Elizabeth Wilson had a personal best of 1:20.

The 400 relay team, of Woods, Jeanie Haynie, Martin and Graham, was fifth.

Peters also finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 2:47.

The mile relay team was first, covering the distance in 4:43. The team was made up of Woods, Haynie, Peters and Martin.

Liz Thompson ran a personal best in the 800 meter run at 3:30, as did Jennifer Thornton, in 3:20.
