PHS Track Team Scores 60 Points For Sixth Place Finish

Published Wednesday, April 16, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

After a long spring break, rain cancellations, illnesses, etc., the Wolves finally got back in a track and field meet at the annual Rider Relays at SAU last Thursday.

Prescott won this meet in six of the seven years it has been held, but the lay-off of competition, conflicting schedules and various other factors found the Wolves in sixth place with 60 points scored.

Once again leading the Wolves in scoring was Jason Morrow. He won the pole vault, second in the 800, and ran in the winning man's 4x400 relay.

Cedric Flemons competed hard, but had some bad luck in his events. He scratched a 21-ft. long jump for no points, was coming in second in the high hurdles and was knocked down by a Nashville Scrapper and the high jump event was held after dark while he was getting ready for the men's relay.

With over 50 teams entered, cool weather and poor organization the meet was not real smooth. The mile relay was run at 10: 15 p.m. after starting the running at 3: 30 p.m.

Listed below are the scoring events for the Wolves.

Pole vault: Jason Morrow took first place and Jeremy Morrow came in second.

4x100 relay: the team of H. Gammage, C.D. Flemons, S. Vanhook, C. Hopson won fifth place.

Discus: T. Burton took fourth place.

4x200 relay: team of H. Gammage, A. Johnston, C. Vanhook and D. Flenory placed fourth.

400-meter run: C.D. Flemons came in second.

300-meter hurdles: Jason Kisselburg won fourth.

800-meter run: Jason Morrow was second.

4x400 relay: team of Jason and Jeremy Morrow, C.D. Flemons and Cowin Hopson took first place.

The Wolves will compete at `Scrapville' this Thursday and will come home next week for the 23rd annual Prescott Merchants Relays on Thrusday, April 24.
