Local Jaycees Begin Drive

South Clark County Jaycees has started a membership drive. Individuals from 21 to 40 may be a Jaycee.

The club must maintain 20 members to continue its charter. The organization has until May 30 to get the 20 members. Membership is $40 a year.

The Jaycees is an organization that provide young people the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills through local community service and organization involvement while expanding the Junior Chamber movement.

The Jaycees has been a part of the Gurdon community for the past five years and has played a valuable part in multiple community projects, such as:

  • Toys For Tots, a community project that assist families at Christmas time who are less fortunate than others.

  • Punt, Pass and Kick, a sport event that's held in the fall of the year at the football field, for youth ages 8 to 15.

  • Providing activities in the Forest Festival for the youth, such as Dusty Money (hide and seek money in sawdust) and other activities.

  • Installing the playground equipment for the Gurdon's Headstart.

  • Assisting in the develpment of the volleyball courts at Gurdon City Park.

  • Providing scholarships for students and other individuals to further their education.

  • Sponsoring the 5K run.

  • Sponsoring the yearly Spring Fling at the City Park to provide activities and entertainment for the youth and the citizens of Gurdon.

  • Registering new voters.

  • Aiding in the Disaster Relief for the tornado victims.

  • Stressing the dangers of youth smoking.

Jaycees offers many benefits to its members, such as no fee/low rate credit cards; 20% hotel discount; car rental discounts; overnight shipping discount; insurance plans; discount on office supplies; free magazine subscriptions; access to scholarships; increasing knowledge of governmental affairs; business networking; and attend leadship conferences.
