Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, April 23, 1997 in the Gurdon Times

We certainly enjoyed the nice weather we had last week. It was so pleasant for the students to be able to go outside after lunch and walk around and visit (sorta getting caught up on each other's activities). It's just those little things that mean so much to us.

The Gurdon Middle School Student Council will conduct its monthly assembly Wednesday. This will be a very special assembly, as the candidates for offices and class representatives will be making their campaign speeches. Several students are seeking postitions in the Student Council and we look forward to hearing their speeches. Voting will be conducted on Thursday. Installation of the new officers will be at the May assembly.

The high school jaz band is to perform at the assembly Wednesday and we are looking forward to the performance. Once again we are wealthy in talent at the Gurdon Schools.

We are excited to have the cheerleader sponsors for both squads as members of the GMS faculty. Fifth grade teacher Keri Green and sixth grade teacher Debbie Davies will co-sponsor both senior and junior high squads. Are you ready to get started? They sure are, as they are getting in shape now. In fact you may see them running around and cheering the teams already. We look forward to next year.

Hope you have noticed the beautiful pansies in full bloom in the containers in front of our building. The school climate committee with the COE are responsible for this attraction. A big thanks to each member of that committee and especially a great big thanks to Mrs. Roe for making sure the flowers receive water as needed.

That's what it is all about at GMS, team work. It may be a big team, or just a small one, but we are constantly looking for ways to make the educational environment a better one for our students.

Most all of the progress reports that were sent home by the students last Tuesday have been returned. However, for those who were not returned, those students are going to detention hall until they do bring them back or a note from the parents that they did see the grade status of their child for the mid-nine weeks.

This year is really winding down and we are very busy, but just remember that we are never too busy to have you to come for a visit or call for an appointment with one or more of your child's teachers. We welcome you, and we thank you, because it is your interest, concern and support that helps us be more determined to continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS.
