Published Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in the Gurdon Times

Gov. Mike Huckabee is sending two staff members to Arkadelphia and Malvern Thursday, May 1, to check on the area's recovery from tornadoes that struck March 1.

DeWayne Hayes and Jim Harris will visit Arkadelphia Thursday morning.

Hayes will be at the state Department of Finance and Admistration office at 2926 Pine Street in Arkadelphia from 9:00 a.m. until noon to visit with Clark County residents who had property damaged.

Harris will visit areas where storms struck and meet with local officials to learn about recovery efforts.

Haye will meet with Hot Spring County storm victims.

"We want to find out if there are people who fell through the cracks and if there is something we can do to help them," Huckabee said.

The March storms caused damage in 26 counties. Six people -- five in Arkadelphia -- were killed in Clark County by the storms.
