Jim Stockton, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Stockton of Prescott, was recently named winner of the 1997 Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award.

The award, sponsored nationwide by Dekalb Genetics Corporation, is presented to the outstanding senior, agricultural students demonstrating superior scholarship, leadership and agricultural experiences.

Presenting the award was Prescott High School ag instructor James Cannon.

Stockton attends Prescott High School, where he has been president and vice president of the local FFA chapter. His agricultural program consists of forestry and beef production. Following graduation, Stockton plans to attend Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and major in agri business.

As this year's winner, Stockton received a lapel pin and certificate. His name will be inscribed on a special plaque displayed in the school lobby.

The Dekalb award, often considered the highest honor an agricultural student can receive on the local level, is presented at nearly 3,000 schools annually.

A longtime supporter of youth activities, Dekalb has presented Ag accomplishment awards since 1947. In addition, the company sponsors college scholarships for ag students pursuing specific careers. Based in DeKalb, Illinois, Dekalb Genetics Corporation is an international researcher, producer and marketer of corn, sorghum, soybeans, alfalfa and sunflower seeds.
