Instructors Are Needed

Published Wednesday, April 30, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is attempting to locate persons who would like to become 55/ALive Mature Driving Course instructors.

There are more requests for classes than can be taught by the present cadre of trained instructors.

The 55/Alive Mature Driving Course is one of the most popular programs of the association and is designed to assist the older driver in overcoming the effects of the aging process, such as diminished vision and hearing and slower reaction time.

Assistant state coordinator Jack Barfield needs instructors in Calhoun, Clark, Dallas, Hempstead, Howard, Lafatette, Little River, Miller, Montgomery, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, Sevier and Union Counties.

Persons serving as instructors are given training and receive compensation for expenses incurred teaching classes. Students who complete the eight-hour course are eligible for discounts on their automobile insurance.

Anyone interested in becoming an instructor is asked to contact Barfield at (501) 922-5423.
