Fouke Shuts Out PHS Baseball Squad

Fouke did something no other team has manage to do to the Curley Wolf baseball team.

The Panthers posted a 3-0 shutout Monday, April 21, when the Wolves paid them a visit.

In addition, Ross Cowling, 5-1, suffered his first loss of the year. He went six innings, tangling with 26 Panthers, allowing the three runs on six hits and five walks. He also fanned seven.

Green was the winning pitcher, winging the horsehide to 26 Wolves, giving up one hit and five walks. He sent 11 down by way of the strike out.

The Wolves got a runner on in the first inning when Jimmy Stockton reached on an error. However, when Al Johnston ripped a line drive to short, Stockton was doubled up and the inning ended.

The Panthers scored the only run they would need in the bottom of the frame. Buckley and Miller each singled, and Buckley scored when Green grounded out.

Silence was golden in the second for the Wolves, as were their bats. In fact, other than a walk to Williams, the side went down on strikes.

Fouke managed to get a pair of runners on base, but did nothing with them.

In the third, Al Formby and Heath Duke went down in short order before Ben Jones walked. But, Jones was nailed trying to steal second.

The Panthers added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning. Buckley walked before Miller and Green singled. Green's one- bagger brought Buckley in for the second time of the game.

Again in the fourth, the Wolves got a runner on by way of the walk. But, again, the runner was left as the bats were frigid.

It didn't really matter much, as Fouke had a short frame as well.

Cowling managed Prescott's only hit of the day, a single, in the fifth, but watched helplessly as Formby and Duke were fanned to retire the side.

To add insult to injury, the Panthers scored in the fifth after Crabtree singled. He advanced on a grounder by Buckley and strike out by Miller. He scored on a wild pitch on a suicide squeeze attempt.

For the remainder of the game, there was no appreciable offense.

The Panthers also handed the junior varsity Wolves a loss, 5-4.

FORDYCE 2

The Wolves took their show on the road again Friday, April 25, this time heading to Fordyce.

Nothing gives the Wolves more pleasure (aside from beating Nashville) than whipping up on the Redbugs.

They also gained a bit of satisfaction with the 5-2 win, getting back on track after their off day at Fouke.

The win gives Prescott an overall record of 8-3 and a league mark of 3-2. Fordyce fell to 9-4 and 3-3.

Cowling increased his record to 6-1, going the distance against 31 batters. In his second stint of the week, he allowed two runs on two hits and seven walks. He also struck nine out.

Musgrove took the loss, only staying on the hill two innings. He faced 13, but gave up three runs on three hits and three walks. He struck two Wolves out.

Reynolds finished the game, tangling with 22 Wolves, giving up two runs on two hits and four walks. He fanned three.

Seething from their loss to Fouke, the Wolves struck early, scoring three in the top of the first.

Jones and Stockton drew walks and scored when Johnston doubled. Jared Yates single drove Johnston in, giving Prescott a 3-0 lead.

While Williams reached on an error and Cowling singled, they were stranded.

Cowling faced four in the bottom of the frame, walking one and sending the rest back to the pines.

The Wolves managed to get two on in the second, but left them stranded when Yates hit into a double play.

Fordyce did nothing in its portion of the inning.

The third and fourth innings were quiet for both squads as neither was able to push a runner around the base paths for a score. Prescott had two on in the third, and one on in the fourth, but none scored.

In the fifth, the Wolves fired their final offensive volley, scoring twice.

Following Yates being struck out, Williams walked. Webb reached on a fielder's choice, which saw Williams safe at second. The two completed the circuit when Formby singled.

The 'Bugs fought back, scoring twice in their part of the frame.

Dorrell reached on an error and Smith walked. A pick off attempt at third saw the ball fly into left field and allowed Dorrell to score. Hunt singled, bringing Smith in.

Though both teams were able to get men on in the sixth and seventh, neither did anything with them.

The junior varsity game was rained out.
