Amy Young, daughter of Dr. Michael and Gail Young of Prescott, has been awarded the Jacob Sacks Award for the outstanding junior.

She is a premedical chemistry major.

Young also received the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Achievement Awards. She has departmental honors in biochemistry, inducted into Golden Key Natonal Honors Society, member of AED premedical faternity..

Her future plans are to attend medical school and become a family practice physician.


Amanda Gayle Bowden of Prescott High School has accepted an academic scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas beginning in August.

UCA awards academic scholarships, renewable for four years, based upon ACT score and class rank, as well as National Merit and National Achievement competition.

Bowden will receive an academic achievement scholarship for half tuition and fees.

She is the daughter of Linda Weathersby of Prescott and Butch Weathersby of Port Lavaca, Texas. She is the granddaughter of Pat Simms of Mena and Virginia Weathersby of Chidester.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Students, honor roll, Future Homemakers of America, Science Club, Spanish Club, office aides, yearbook staff and band. She was named to the all-region band three years, is a Kiwanis honor student, was voted most dependable in her class and will be an honor graduate.

She plans to major in nursing.


Amie Denise Williams, a senior at Nevada High School, has accepted an academic scholarship to the University of Central Arkanss beginning in August.

UCA awards academic scholarships, renewable for four years, based on ACT score and class rank, as well as National Merit and National Achievement competition.

Williams will receive an academic achievement scholarship for half tuition and fees.

She is the daughter of Dwight and Phyllis Williams of Buckner. She plans to enroll in pre-pharmacy.

She was also offered a scholarship to University of Arkansas Community College at Hope.


DiLesha Easter, a senior at Nevada High School has been awarded a technical scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. The scholarship is based upon ACT and grade point average plus a recommendation from a school official.

Easter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evester Easter of Buckner. She will be pursuing an associate of applied science in business technology.


Thomas Christopher Lawrence, son of Thomas Charles Lawrence of Prescott, has been named to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Massachussetts in Amherst.

Phi Beta Kappa honors recent graduates and current juniors and seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in the humanities and fine arts, natural sciences and mathematics and social and behavioral sciences.

Founded in 1776, it is the most prestigious national honor society recognizing excellence at the undergraduate level. The chapter at the university was founded in 1963.

Lawrence is a member of the class of 1997 majoring in classics at the university, where he also is a member of Eta Sigma Phi, the honor society for classics majors.

He graduated from Longview High School in Longview, Texas.
