Students Participated In Internship Program At SAU

Gaining knowledge from the workplace has been the experience for 11 students who particpated in the business internship program during the spring semester at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.

Students participating in the program include Angie Carter, an accounting major from Stephens, Fan Jin, an accounting major from Shaghai, China; Robert Horton, a finance major from Blanchard, La., Darlene Tickle, a finance major form McNeil, David Jackson, a computer information systems major from Prescott; Michael Clark, a computer information systems major from Waldo; Michael Reeves, a marketing major from Buckner, Kelli Childs, a marketing major from Magnolia; Marianne Jackson, a management major from Magnolia; Linda Wilson, a management major from Camden; and Rose Matthiesen, a business agriculture major from Crossett.

Students participating in the program have found a number of positive benefits gained from the intern program. Those benefits included the development of better interpersonal skills with co-workers, customers and clients; the ability to apply classroom knowledge to the work environment; the different facets of each discipline; and learning to troubleshoot.

Businesses participating in the program include Albermarle, Alumax, Atlantic Research Corporation, American Express, Farmer's Bank and Trust, First National Bank, Eddie Leon and Associates, Jo-El Electric Supply, Norwest Financial and Southern Arkansas University Physical Plant.

Dr. Gale White, director of the internship program, stated that approximately 30 percent of the students in the school of business adminsitration particpated in the program. She cited the development of human relations skills as one of the greatest benefits.
