Cubs Take Second At District MeetPublished Wednesday, May 7, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott Cubs finished 2nd place in total team standings and earned the runner-up trophy with 118 points at the 7AA track and field championships which were held at Prescott last Tuesday and Thursday. The Cubs, who were in fourth place after Tuesday's field events, exploded in the running finals on Thursday scoring 96 points on the track. Prescott's junior boys finished ahead of Fouke, Bismarck, De Queen and Fordyce and gave district champs Nashville a scare by scoring 34 points in the last three running events. Prescott's Calvin Flemons won the 7AA high point trophy with 32 1/2 points. Place finishers for Prescott included: Pole vault: Brad Harris, first place with a vault of 13', a new district record and personal record; Aaron Hearnsburger, fourth place with 11 feet; and David Fain, sixth place with 9 feet. High jump: Otis Harris, sixth place with 5' 2". Long jump: Edward Glenn, second place with 18' 9". 3200-meter relay: L. Flemons, O. Peters, D. Noland and A. Purifoy, first place with a season's best time of 9:09.1. 400-meter relay: E. Glenn, T. Woodley, O. Harris and A. Purifoy, second place with a season's best time of 47.0. 100-meter dash: Calvin Flemons, first place with a personal record time of 11.3; and Edward Glenn, fourth place with a personal record time of 11.4. 1600-meter run: Larry Peters, first place with a time of 5:00.1. 800-meter relay: E. Glenn, A. Fellows, O. Harris and T. Woodley, second place with 1:42.1. 400-meter dash: Calvin Flemons, first place with a district record and personal record time of 52.0; and Antone (Stick) Purifoy, fifth place with a personal record time of 55.1. 800-meter run: Larry Peters, first place with a personal record time of 2:10.2; Derrick Nolan, fourth place with a personal record of 2:16; and Andrew Fellows, sixth place with a personal record time of 2:19. 200-meter dash: Calvin Flemons, second place with a personal record time of 22.8; Antone (Stick) Purifoy, fifth place with a personal record time of 23.08; and Edward Glenn, sixth place with a personal record time of 24.1. 1600-meter relay: C.
