COUNSELOR'S DESKPublished Wednesday, May 7, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayuneby Donald Crane Graduation is closing in fast! I haven't noticed that "can't wait to leave this place" syndrome so common this time of year. Perhaps the seniors have grown attached to us and really hate to leave. Well, there may be a few exceptions. For the past month, we have been hard at the scheduling process. I am currently working with next year's sophomores and hope to have them completed by the time you read this. I have worked individually with each student, and given each a copy when we finished. Interested parents should ask the student for the copy, but that applies only to next year's sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Parents should have already seen and approved the schedules of eighth graders who were scheduled at the middle school. We are getting a lot of questions from students who plan to take courses at UACCH (University of Arkansas Community College at Hope). I suppose the rule remains the same as for the current year. Each student must be enrolled in four classes next year. If they plan to take two classes at UACCH, they must have a minimum of two at PHS. Summer and fall schedules for UACCH are available in my office. We have finally heard from CPEP (College Preparatory and Enrichment Program) which is commonly known as summer ACT. There have been funding problems, and that has been the hold up. It's going to be a rushed-up affair because I have to have the grant application in by graduation day. We have announced the program at school, and I am currently enlisting interested students. To insure students get on the list, parents may call 887-3123. CPEP is open to current juniors, seniors, and sophomores who have taken the test and have scores on file. As of this writing, we have not had time to meet and set dates or times. The feeling I get from the teachers I have talked with is that a day program is preferred. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
