Frontier Day Is September 25Published Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneFolks can step back to the 19th century when they go to Old Washington Historic State Park September 25 to celebrate the 23rd annual Frontier Day. Teachers may make reservations for Friday's, student-based programs on September 24. They can watch artisans demonstrating their skills in blacksmithing, spinning, quilting, pioneer cooking, basket making, shingle riving and other pioneer crafts. They can have a try at throwing the 'hawk', dipping a candle, sawing with the 'crosscut' or taking a 'double lick' with the hand auger. Pioneer re-enactors and Native Americans will show skills of the frontier life. In addition, bluegrass, country and gospel music performances. Will be held. Historic Williams' Tavern Restaurant (c. 1983) will be open for your dining pleasure. Activities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
