Nancy `Bun' SpencerPublished Wednesday, May 7, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesMrs. Nancy `Bun' Hayes Spencer, 99, of Hope, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 1997, in a Texarkana hospital. Born September 1, 1897, in Okolona, she was the daughter of Thomas Henry and Beulah Cloud Hays, a graduate of Okolona High School and attended Henderson Brown University at Arkadelphia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hope, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of the Tuesday Morning Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, former U.S. Senator George Lloyd Spencer, and their daughter, Hilda Kim, at the age of ten. Survivors include a nephew, Thomas E. Hays Jr. of Hope; three nieces, Nancy Gottwald of Richmond, Va., Margaret Ann North of Midlothian, Va., and Jane Phelps of Little Rock; several great and great great nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, May 5, at First United Methodist Church of Hope with Rev. Davis Thompson officiating.
