Military Memorial PlannedPublished Wednesday, May 14, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesOld Washington Historic State Park, in conjunction with Hope Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, will celebrate the service and sacrifice of our armed forces, both past and present, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 16, 17 and 18. Attractions at Old Washington include living history exhibitions by military reenactors of various time periods, military exhibits including uniforms and weapons from the 18th century to Desert Storm. A special Civil War exhibit, military miniatures and wargaming, model planes, tanks and ships, will be presented. A book fair, courtesy of Books-A-Million in Texarkana, will be available all weekend. Concurrently, a speaker's symposium will address different aspects of military history, both local and global in scope. The Hope Airport will host modern military exhibits courtesy of the local armed forces recruiters. Texarkana Radio Controlled Flyers and Crafts, Etc., is also sponsoring an airplane and rocketry exhibition at the airport.
