Students Handed Awards At Annual GHS Band Banquet

The Gurdon School bands' awards banquet was held in the high school cafeteria May 8.

Students presented `most improved awards' were Rolsbin Medina from GHS and Roy Wood from GMS.

The beginning Band Music Award went to Rebecca Stephens.

First State Bank gave Musician Awards to GHS student Andrew Wilson and GMS student Annie Otwell.

International Paper give Band Leadership Awards to Andrea Morrison at GHS and to Brandley Weems at GMS.

This year's recipient of the John Phillip Sousa Award was Melanie Wilson.

Student choice awards are a fun way to see how peers think of each other. These awards are voted on during each band class days before the banquet. Here are the `winners' of the fun awards.

Beginning band: most likely to be late, Ruby Vaden; most likely to be prepared, Rebecca Stephens; most likely to become a band director, Michael Baird; outstanding woodwind, Tara Hunko; outstanding brass, C. Brandon Williams; outstanding percussion, Kris Lunsford; most likely to be a professional musician, Kelly Runyan; most talented, Barak Gills; best attitude, Tracy Coplen; most helpful, Amber Webb; and works hardest, Tara Hunko.

GMS Band : most likely to be late, Shea Griffin; most likely to be prepared, Brandley Weems; most likely to become a band director, Annie Otwell; outstanding woodwind, Stephanie Kilts; outstanding brass, Lyndi Escalante; outstanding percussion, Steven Purifoy; most likely to be a professional musican, Darcy Kitchens; most talented, Lyndi Escalante; best attitude, Rebecca Giles; most helpful, Annie Otwell; and works hardest, Lyndi Escalante.

GHS Band: most likely to be late, Ginger Minton; most likely to be prepared, Melanie Wilson; most likely to be a band director, Andrea Morrison; outstanding woodwind, Teresa Blake; outstanding brass, Andrea Morrison; outstanding percussion, Andrew Wilson; most like to be a professional musician, Melanie Wilson; most talented, Melanie Wilson; best attitude, Cassie Lynn; most helpful, Heather Griffin; and works hardest, Teresa Blake.

Many thanks go to each of the community members who have supported the band this year. The band boosters would also like to thank Mr. Burson for the hours spent working with all band students.

A concert will be held in the Gurdon Middle School auditorium Thursday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m.
