CLASSY MOMENTSPublished Wednesday, May 14, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesJust in case you have not noticed, `summer fever' is in the air, especially at GMS. Students are counting the days until school will be out. (And, truthful, several of the teachers are doing the same.) Of couse, we will be ready to start back to school in August, but is is time for a vacation. We will be losing our secretary, Sharon Gattis, as she has a wonderful opportunity at OBU. We are proud for her, but, needless to say, we will miss her terribly. We wish her nothing but the best, as that's what she is -- the best. Mrs. Gattis, you have touched so may lives at GMS, and we want you to know that you are leaving behind you a job well done. We look forward to hearing from you and we always extend the warmest welcome if you have time to come by for a visit. We were rather surprised when Mrs. Baumgardner announced her retirement at the end of this school year. It was a well kept from all of us, and it is hard to keep a secret around here. For some reason a chair appeared at the door of Mrs. Baumgardner on the day she announced retirement plans, and she has really enjoyed her hall duty in a most comfortable position, rather than standing and standing and standing. Did I mention standing? We know you will be greatly missed and we certainly expect you to come back for visits. Just don't rule out the possibility of substituting from time to time. Enjoy your retirement. Monday, May 19, Mrs. Hitt will present her junior high choir concert for the students at 12:30 and for the public at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there, as it will be an event you will enjoy and perhaps be surprised at the talent the choir has to share. Wednesday, May 21, the GMS Student Council will present the monthly assembly at 9:00 a.m. This will be to install the new officers, as well as a few other surprises. Of course you are invited to attend. The eighth grade social studies classes have been busy, as they have been reciting the presidents, and in order! They found it was not as difficult as they had expected. If you would like to know any of the events that are yet to come at GMS, call us at 353-4311. You are always welcome to come for a visit and see how we continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
