Former Gurdon Man Dies From Accidental Stabbing

Randy Gale Pitts, of Trumann Arkansas, formerally from Gurdon died Sunday morning of a stab wound sustained in a household accident, Authorities said.

Officers of the Trumann Police Department were called Sunday morning, May 4, 1997 shortly before 9:00 a.m. to 837 Ellis Street Extended and found he had sustained a stab wound to the chest.

Officers said they administered CPR until ambulance personell arrived, but Pitts was pronounced dead by Poinsett County Deputy Corner Debbie Smith at 9:15 a.m.

Detective Lt. Jack Richardson of the Trumann Police Department said Pitts apparently bumped into a bookcase, knocking it over. His wife, Tammy Pitts, was in the kitchen peeling vegetables, and apparently both attempted to catch the shelf and Pitts was stabbed in the chest with the knife, the officer added.

The death has been ruled accidential and no charges are expected to be filed in the case, Richardson said.
