David Jackson, son of Daniel and Linda Bennett of Prescott, will be graduating from Southern Arkansas University Friday night, May 16. He will receive a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in computer information systems and information system management.

After graduation, David and his wife, Menea, will make their home in Little Rock, where he has accepted a position with the Alltel Corporation.


Approximately 317 undergraduate and graduate students will be receiving degrees in Henderson State University's annual spring commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.

According to Dr. Robert Houstin, vice president for academic affairs at Henderson, there will be 112 candidates for graduation from the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences, 55 from the School ofBbusiness, 89 from the School of Education and 29 from the Graduate School.

Students from Prescott graduating were Casey J. Hendrix and Kristi M. Jones, who will receive a bachelor's degrees in business administration; Carol J. Williamson, who will graduate with a bachelor of arts degree; Janet Y. Clarke, who will receive a bachelor of science in education degree; Nina N. Thompson who will receive a bachelor of science in nursing; and Nancy Joyce Westmoreland, who will receive a master of science degree in education.

Charmaine N. Hodges, a graduate of Emmet High School, will receive abachelor of arts degree.

Amanda R. Phillips, a graduate of Nevada High School, will receive a bachelor of science degree.

The University will provide three ceremonies at Arkansas Hall at a Henderson and 12th Street. Graduates from the Ellis College will March at 10 a.m., graduates from the school of education will march at 12 noon and graduates from the school of business will march at 2 p.m. In the event of bad weather, all graduate students will be marching with the school of education at 12 noon. Charlene McLelland, who has accepted a technical scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, is the daughter of Jerald McLelland and the granddaughter of Maurice and Dorothy McLelland all of Prescott.


Deloris Wincher, a senior at Nevada High School, has been awarded a technical scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. The scholarship is based upon an ACT and grade point average plus a recommendation from a school official.

Wincher is the daughter of Hertis and Mae Dell Wincher of Buckner. She will be pursuing a technical certificate in office systems technology.


Robbie J. (Smith) Price, daughter of Robert C. and Bonnie Smith of Prescott, has received a degree in accounting, graduating from Oklahoma Christian University.

President Kevin E. Jacobs presented university degrees to 173 graduates at the commencement ceremonies April 25. U.S. Sen. Don Nickles of Oklahoma, who serves as the assistant majority leader of the Senate, was the speaker.


Joannie Elizabeth Bailey of Willisville, a senior at Nevada High School, has accepted an academic scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas in Conway beginning in August.

UCA awards academic scholarships, renewable for four years, based on ACT score and class rank, as well as National Merit and National Achievement competition.

Bailey will receive an academic achievement scholarship for half tuition and fees.

She is the daughter of Ray Bailey and Sharon Hohnhorst.

She is vice president of the senior class, manager of the baseball team, a member of the Future Business Leadsers of America, Beta Club, Drug Team, French Club, Art Club, honor roll, cheerleader, and basektball team, served as the school mascot and will be a highest honor graduate.

She plans to major in mass communication.


The office of University Relations and Admissions of Henderson State University has announced Laura V. Culpepper has been awarded the university academic scholarship for 1997-98.

According to Vikita Bell Hardwick, director, the scholarship is equivalent to in-state registration fees for up to four years which equals approximately $7,440.

She is the daughter of Duncan and Debra Culpeper of Prescott, and she is currently a student at Precott High School.
