An award's ceremony was planned for Tuesday night, but had to be cancelled.

This is because several athletes weren't able to attend and pick up the honors they worked hard for during the year.

But, the reason they couldn't attend is because, as members of the baseball team, they were playing in the state tournament.

The Diamond Wolves spent three days at Fouke playing their way to a second place finish in the district 7AA Tournament.

The Wolves posted a 7-6 win over Fordyce in the second round game, and clipped Fouke 7-5 in round three. But, the Nashville Scrappers were on in the finals, handing the Wolves a 10-5 loss.

Ross Cowling picked up his seventh win of the season against the Redbugs, pushing his record to 7-2 overall, as the Wolves scratched the 'Bugs 7-6.

Cowling went five, facing 26, giving up four runs on five hits and six walks. He struck 10 out.

Jared Yates replaced Cowling on the hill for the final two frames, tangling with 11 batters, giving up two runs on two hits and a pair of walks.

Musgrove took the loss, staying four innings on the hill against 22 Wolves. He was tagged for six runs on four hits and five walks. He also fanned three.

Morris finished the contest for the 'Bugs, going two full frames against nine batters. He gave up the winning run on two hits and a walk, while fanning two.

The 'Bugs had a three-spot on the board before the Wolves were able to post their first run in the bottom of the third.

The Wolves took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth, with Fordyce scoring a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. However, a run in the bottom of the fifth was enough to preserve the win for Prescott.

Cowling fanned the first two batters he faced, before issuing a pair of walks. A single by Wallace drove Reynolds in and allowed Fordyce to draw first blood.

Prescott sent three up, with all three returning to the dugout having done no harm.

Fordyce added a run in the top of the second on a walk issued to Dorrell and a triple by Thrower with two out. Cowling walked Hunt, but fanned Reynolds to end the threat.

The Wolves were able to get two men on, but left them stranded as two fanned in the frame.

Two walks and an error made it 3-0 for the 'Bugs, before the Wolves settled down and ended the top of the third.

On the other hand, the Wolves offense woke up in the bottom of the frame.

Heath Duke opened by flying out. Ben Jones walked, as did Jimmy Stockton. Al Johnston belted a single to score Jones. Yates hit a sacrifice fly to bring Stockton across. Johnston went home when Williams singled.

Cowling got a bit of a breather in the fourth by retiring the side with two K's and a harmless grounder.

The Wolves's offense remained red hot in the bottom of the inning as three more circled the bases.

Cowling helped himself with a single, advancing to third when Shane Pipkin and Duke walked. An error allowed Jones to reach and Cowling to score.

The second error of the inning let Johnston make it safely to first and brought Pipkin and Duke in.

Fordyce cut the gap to two runs in the top of the fifth.

Morgan singled, but Wallace and Musgrove flied out. Wagnon's single brought Morgan in, but Wagnon was hit by a grounder to third to end the frame.

Prescott fired its final offensive shot of the game with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Williams doubled to get things started. Webb was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Cowling loaded the bases with a single.

Jernigan lofted a fly ball to bring Williams in, but the two remaining runners were left as Duke and Jones went down on strikes.

The 'Bugs made it interesting in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs.

After Smith flied out, Thrower walked and Hunt singled. A single by Reynolds brought the two in. Morgan walked, but Wallace and Musgrove grounded out to end the rally.

It was one, two, three for Prescott in the sixth, with the third out coming when Johnston was caught trying to steal second after walking.

Though Wagnon reached on an error to start the seventh, Yates shut down the 'Bugs inducing three straight outs.

This sent the Wolves to the semifinals of the tourney against Fouke

FOUKE 5

Seven was again the lucky number for Prescott as the Wolves outscored the Panthers 7-5.

Cowling, pitching for the second straight game, went the distance. He faced 37, surrendering the five runs on eight hits and seven walks. He also struck 11 out.

Savell was the losing pitcher, managing only four frames against 26 batters. He gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks, while fanning seven.

East finished the game for Fouke, going two innings against nine Wolves. He gave up a run on one hit and two walks, but fanned five.

It was a quiet first inning for both teams as neither did much offensively. Fouke had two of its three batters strike out, while Stockton managed a single before the Wolves were retired.

The Panthers took a short-lived lead in the top of the second as Green, D. Eaves and C. Eaves all singled with one down as East grounded out for an RBI.

Heigle walked to load the bases, but D. Crabtree hit into a fielder's choice with Heigle getting tagged between first and second.

Prescott retaliated with three in its part of the inning.

Williams walked ahead of a Cowling single. Webb loaded the bases with a walk before Pipkin fanned.

Duke got an RBI when he was hit by a pitch and drove Williams in. Jones flied out, but Stockton singled Cowling in. Johnston's one- bagger brought Webb in from the cold.

The 'Cats responded with a run in the third. Buckley singled, going to second when Savell walked. Green loaded the bases with a one- bagger, while Buckley scored on a fielder's choice by Miller. D. Eaves was kind enough to hit into a 6-4-3 double play and end the problem.

Prescott added a two-spot in the bottom of the inning, starting with Williams getting hit by a pitch. Webb cranked up his wayback machine and took one out of the park.

Pipkin walked and Duke doubled. However, Pipkin was nabbed at home when the ball got by the catcher, who recovered quickly.

Fouke did nothing in the fourth as Cowling fanned all three.

A pair of doubles brought Stockton in to start Prescott's fourth, but the Wolves left the bases loaded when Webb and Pipkin struck out.

Again, Fouke was quiet in the fifth, though two reached.

The Wolves also went down in order.

The Panthers threatened in the sixth as D. Eaves singled but was forced at second when C. Eaves grounded into a fielder's choice. East walked, but both watched as Heigle struck out and Crabtree flied out.

Prescott pushed across its final run in the bottom of the inning when Johnston and Yates walked. Johnston scored when Williams doubled.

However, Cowling, Webb a
