It was a busy week for the Prescott Police Department, especially with a visit to the Split Rail Inn Thursday, May 8.

According to PPD officer Kristi Hillery, aides cleaning a room found what they believed were marijuana plants being grown in a wash pail and alerted the PPD.

The PPD contacted the Nevada County Sheriff's Office after finding 11 small plants growing in the bucket.

Sheriff Steve Otwell, chief deputy Wayne Kisselburg and Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the NCSO and PPD, aided in the search. "Narco", the NCSO drug dog, sniffed out some individual packets containing seeds.

No arrests have been made in the case as of yet.

In other PPD news, a 14-year-old was charged with criminal trespassing Thursday for being on railroad tracks.

Hillery said the youth was also reportedly unlocking rail cars, which caused delays for the train.

A black male reportedly snatched a woman's purse on West Hazel Thursday. Hillery said the purse was taken from the victim's shoulder and contained about $65 in cash.

Mother's Day wasn't a pleasant one for Michael Evans, 27, of Prescott.

Evans and his girlfriend got into an altercation resulting in him striking her several times. He was charged with third degree domestic battery and is being held in the Nevada County jail.

Officers arrested Edwin Crawley Wednesday, May 7, for criminal trespass at the Prescott Housing Authority.

Crawley is on a list of people not allowed at the PHA, but a call to the PPD reported him as being there.

Officers searched the apartment in question, finding Crawley hiding in a bathtub. He was arrested, charged with criminal trespass and released on bond.

A heavy-set black male is wanted for questioning in connection with a shoplifting at Baker's Best Stop Sunday afternoon.

According to Hillery, the suspect was seen picking up some snack cakes, but put them back on the shelf.

However, after leaving the building he was seen showing a can of lunch meat to someone in a vehicle.

The clerk said the lunch meat was not paid for.

A home on Gee Street was reportedly broken into Thursday afternoon. However, nothing was reported missing by the owner.

The suspect(s) gained entry through a back window.

All officers with the PPD were able to meet the minimum firearm qualifications as they were tested at the local firing range with their sidearms.
