EHS Fields Track TeamBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 21, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune For the first time in several years, Emmet fielded a track team. While the squads were young, they were also competitive. The junior girls team finished second in the district meet with 72 points, behind Emerson's 163. Saratoga was third with 66 points. Though the junior boys didn't finish in the top at the district meet, they did have several good finishes in many events. The senior boys finished sixth in their meet, with 12 points. In the junior girls meet, the 400 meter relay team of Courtney Lively, Brandi White, Rose Martin and Jennifer Lively, finished fourth with a time of :61.1. These same girls made up the 800 meter relay team and came in third in this event with a time of 2:10.25. Amanda Hodges won the 400 meter dash, covering the distance in 1:09.84. White came in fourth, with a time of 1:14.78. Hodges won the high jump event, tying the district record, leaping 4-10. She also won the discus with a toss of 74-81/2. In the shot put event, Block took the top spot with a toss of 25-51/2, while Martin was third, hurling the heavy ball 24-5. Emmet was fourth and fifth in the 100 meter hurdles, as Hodges was fourth in :19.75, while C. Lively was fifth in :20.15. The 1600 meter relay team, C. Lively, Brandi White, Bonnie White and Hodges, was second with a time of 5:08.40 For the senior boys, Chad Bennett was sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of :21.69. The 400 meter relay team of Bennett, Jeremy Health, Shane Rothenberger and Teddy Parmer was fourth with a time of :50.81. This same team finished fourth in the 800 meter relays, with a time of 1:52.93. Health came in fifth in the 200 meter dash, covering the distance in :24.96. The junior boys had three members of their team finish in the top six in the 200 meter dash. R.J. Overton was fourth in :28.50, while Chad Adamson was fifth, :29.35, and Ted Kennedy sixth in :30.00. The 800 meter relay team of Michael Terrell, Overton, Adamson and Josh Rothenberger, was second with a time of 1:48.10. This same crew composed the 1600 meter relay team and also finished second with a time of 4:23.9. Rothenberger was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 35-3, while Overton was sixth, heaving the ball 34-3. In the 3200 relay, the team of Danny Casto, Kennedy, Jacob Dearinger and Jim Faulkner was fourth with a time of 13:11.09. Rothenberger came in fifth in the long jump, leaping 16-8. Overton finished sixth in the 110 hurdles, covering the space in :20.0. Rothenberger, in his first ever attempt to throw the discus in a meet, won with a heave of 111-4. Overton was third, tossing the disc 97- 111/2. Terrell, Overton, Kennedy and Rothenberger, the 400 relay team, were third with a time of :53.91. Emmet captured fourth through sixth place in the 100 meter dash. Rothenberger was fourth with a time of :12.66, while Overton came in fifth in :12.84. Kennedy was sixth in :13.31.
