Church Women MeetPublished Wednesday, May 28, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThe Women of the Church of God met May 19 in the home of Shirley Smithpeters. There were eight members present: Thelma Mizell, Rhoda Spruill, Doris Vance, Eulah Wilson, Vivian Spruill, Shirley Smithpeters, Janet Toland and Royetta Wright. Janet Toland reported to the group about the state WCG convention held May 2 and 3. Following this, Shirley Smithpeters presented the lesson entitled, "Valuing Our First Love." Scripture references were taken from I Corinthians 13, Matthew 22: 36-38 and Matthew 24:12. The lesson emphasized that God should be our first love and take first priority in our lives. Each member wrote down one thing in her life that may keep her from letting God be her first love. These were sealed in envelopes and will be opened again in three months. At that time each will determine if she has been sucessful in eliminating that distration in her relationship with God. The WCG will not meet during the months of June and July.
