Two Others Busted For Violations

Published Wednesday, May 28, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

A Gurdon man found himself in the Nevada County jail for passing bad checks.

According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the Prescott Police Department and Nevada County Sheriff's Office, Charles C. Ross, 28, was arrested Thursday, May 22, by PPD Sgt. Tyrone Butler on outstanding felony warrants for violations of the Arkansas Hot Check Law.

Authorities got a tip Ross had been seen in Prescott, which led to the arrest. He is being held without bond in the Nevada County jail because of a parole violation out of Hot Springs. Ross also has a misdemeanor warrant out in Clark County.

Westmoreland said Ross was charged with writing 16 hot checks between March 25, 1997, and April 4, 1997.

Anyone holding a hot check written by this suspect, Westmoreland said, should contact the Municipal Clerk's office at 870-887- 6016.

Violation of the Arkansas Hot Check Law is a class C felony, punishable by a sentence of three to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction and a fine not exceeding $10,000 per count.

BAD IMPERSONATOR

A 20-year-old Hope man was arrested and charged with criminal impersonation.

According to Westmoreland, Dinoko R. Horton was arrested Wednesday, May 21, charged with criminal impersonation. The person he allegedly impersonated was his brother, Steffon.

Horton was originally picked up Oct. 25, 1996, for traffic violations and possession of firearms by certain persons. At the time, he told officers he was Steffon Horton.

However, Arkansas State Police Trooper Keith Sullivan later stopped Steffon on the outstanding warrants from the October incident and learned this wasn't the person who had been arrested. Because of this, the warrants did not apply to Steffon Horton.

When Dinoko was reporting to his parole officer in Hope, he was detained until Nevada County deputy Bernard Box arrived and arrested him.

Along with being charged with criminal impersonation, a class A misdemeanor, and felon in possession of a firearm, a class D felony, he also faces possible parole revocation.

MULTIPLE CHARGES

A Waldo man found himself charged with six different offenses after being arrested by Deputy Jason Arrington.

According to reports, Jesse Wayne Hilliard, 38, of Waldo, was arrested Thursday, May 22, and charged with possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana, second offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while under the influence, second offense, driving on a suspended driver's license, drinking on the highway and refusal to submit to a breath test.

Arrington spotted Hilliard on County Road 25, stopping him on County Road 6. Arrington knew Hilliard's license had been suspended.

A search of the vehicle turned up a plastic bag filled with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a pipe, alcohol and a .22 rifle.

Hilliard is being held in the Nevada County jail.
