Gurdon Police officer Tony Pruitt and Mayor Rick Smith talked to students back in April about when to call 911 and when not to call. A picture contest was held and Mayor Smith presented cash awards and certificates from the city of Gurdon to Gurdon Primary School 911 contest winners.

Students in kindergarten and first grade participated in a coloring contest.

Students in grades second through fourth created pictures showing when to use or not use 911 along with showing fire, police and ambulance help. Members of the Central Arkansas Developmental Council helped judge the pictures.

911 first grade winners are, l-r, Bo Jester, Jalissa Young and Justin Hart. Winners not pictured are Brianna Burke and Kendra Bownds.

911 kindergarten winners are, l-r, front row: Abbey Smith, K.B. Keeling and Bronson Williams; and back row: Sydney Goza, Codie Golden and Brucilla Buford.

911 second and third grade winners are, l-r, front row: Aaron Charles, Jo Lee Jester and Marco Giles; and back row: Cody Caldwell and Misty Pennington.

Fourth grade 911 winners are, l-r, Lauren Coston, Hunter Johnson and Ashley Powell.

Fourth grader Britta Halliday and first grader Ashlyn Escalante entered the Arkansas Attorney General's ABC's of Child Safety poster contest. Both received a certificate for particpation. May was the month for child safety awareness.

Third graders Kanei Russey, Simone Day and T.C. Berline stand with Miss University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, Amy Myrick. Miss Myrick presented a program on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs to third graders at Gurdon Primary School.
