Dear Editor:

In response to the survey sent out to the citizens of Gurdon by our Mayor Rick Smith: Yes a tornado warning system is a good idea. Why don't we get several prices on the system and then plan several projects to raise the money to pay for the system instead of raising our taxes again?

Our tax money still has not cleaned up the problems in Gurdon. Even when we had a full police department, we were still exposed to drug dealers and users. We were still exposed to alcohol sellers and users in this town. So what has our tax money done? Nothing! Our children are still exposed to all of this and they learn it's O.K.

Money is not the answer! The answer is responsibiltiy. Those in office have failed to rid our town of those evils. It's the same old story. Nothing changes. Then those in office try to convince us it's money. I don't think so!

As for animal control, the owners should be responsible for the damage their animals cause. Fine the owners and put this money toward the tornado warning system.

You people who are in office need to wake up! Use some common sense. Be responsible. Money is not the answer.

Also, money collected from the drug dealers could be used toward a tornado (warning) system. Money collected from the bootleggers could also go toward the tornado (warning) system.

The citizens of Gurdon voted a 1/2-cent tax for street repair not too long ago. Something isn't right!

It's time to clean up Gurdon with some common sense. I don't care which way you travel into Gurdon. It's an eyesore whichever way you come in.

Where, oh where, has common sense gone? We do not need another tax increase. We need responsible people. We need citizens who will clean up around their homes. We need citizens who have some pride.

Ride through Gurdon and look at some of our citizens' yards and homes. It's a disgrace to our town. Let's fine those who won't clean up their yards. Also put that money toward this tornado (warning) system.
