Area High Schools Represented At Girls StatePublished Wednesday, June 11, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneFatima McKindra of Little Rock was Governor of Girls State last week. Girls State was held on the campus of Harding University in Searcy June 1-6. Jana Barfield of Prescott was elected Alderman, Position 2, of Harriman. She was also elected State Senator in District One. All elective positions to towns, counties and districts are fictitious Lindsay Franks of Prescott was elected City Attorney for Compton and Constable no. 1 of Eisenhower County. Tamra Marlar of Prescott was elected Constable no. 2 of Kuykendall County. Jessie Ward of Prescott was elected County Judge of Fulbright County. Kelley Wren of Prescott was elected Alderman no. 5 of the city of Beatty and Constable no. 2 of Faubus County. Laura Martin of Rosston was elected Treasurer of the city of Pollan and Prosecuting Attorney of Mills County. Also in attendance was Ada Nixon of Prescott. RaDora Jean Dinnan of Morrilton was named as a Samsung American Legion Scholarship national finalist. She was named a finalist on the basis of academics, school and community involvement and financial need. She will be competing against 96 others for a scholarship worth around $20,000. The Samsung American Legion Scholarship funds come from the earnings of a $5 million endowment given by Samsung North America. Samsung, in recognition of the sacrifice and commitment of U.S. servicemen and women who served durign the Korean War to maintain the security of the Korean Peninsula, joined with the American Legion to offer an educational opportunity to the descendants of war-time veterans who have served honorably.
