A new mentor has been named for the Prescott Curley Wolf football team.

The new coach has plenty of playoff experience from his former team.

David Bennett, who has been the defensive coordinator with the Murfreesboro Rattlers, was tabbed to head the Wolves in a special meeting of the Prescott School Board Friday, June 6.

Bennett will be the head football coach in Prescott, as well as the boys track coach.

He's been with the Rattler program since 1991, after coming to Arkansas from the Moody, Texas Independent School District, where he spent three hears as the first assistant football coach and boys basketball coach. Prior to his job with Moody, Bennett was an assistant coach with the Marlin, Texas ISD.

Bennett, 33, and his wife, Kim, have four children, two of whom are school age.

Prescott Superintendent Don Johnston said Bennett will be involved in helping hire the assistant coaches.

And, he will have his hands full, as the resignations of two other football coaches were accepted. Ed Tyree will be following Eddie Jackson to Hampton, while Kevin Stamps is set to move to Greenwood.

A third coaching resignation was also accepted, as Cecily Butler, girls basketball coach, accepted a spot as the leader of the Lady Dragons of Genoa Central.

In other business, the board agreed to purchase a Ford Windstar from Prescott Motor Company for use in school activities when there are less than 10 people involved. The board will trade in the district's van and pay $1,200 extra for the new vehicle.

Part of the reason for this is because a standard 65-passenger school bus was used to take two coaches and one member of the Prescott High School track team to Clarksville for a post season meet.
