Music Blowout Is SetPublished Wednesday, June 18, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneDo not, under any circumstances make any other plans for the weekend. This weekend, June 21, the Emmet Volunteer Fire Department is having its annual Music Blowout in the area by the Emmet City Hall, with plenty to keep everyone busy for the entire day. In fact, from noon until 10 p.m. something will be going on constantly. This year's activities include the Texark Antique Car Show, with 25 antique cars on display for auto buffs. There is also the chance for a ride on the LifeNet helicopter. Visitors to the blowout can donate $1 for a chance to win this five-minute ride. One of the more interesting events could be the double bubble gum sculpting contest. Youngsters can enter this contest for $1 and show their artistic talents. Prizes will be awarded to the most recognizable sculpture. The basketball shootout is again on tap. Registration for this event will begin at noon. Other contests include the fireman suit up contest, with area firefighters seeing who can get their gear on the quickest, and a fireman tug-of-war contest between area departments. The tug-of-war will begin at 4 p.m. But this isn't all. In fact, it's far from it. At 3 o'clock there will be a fashion show for men, women and children, featuring models from local and area stores, including Stage, Cato's, Martin's Footnotes and Fashion and the Fashion Shop. Possibly one of the more entertaining events will be Joe Joe and Gizmo, the famous monkey act as seen on all three Little Rock television stations. It is suggested those with video equipment bring it along, as well as anyone with a camera. These monkeys have been trained to play basketball, shake hands and give high fives, along with hanging from a person's arm by their tail. Their show starts at 6:30 p.m. But, the entire concept of a music blowout is music. There will be plenty of this as well. Greater Destiny, the White Mustang Band will perform at 1 p.m., with the Ambassadors taking center stage after Joe Joe and Gizmo are done. With all this activity, visitors are bound to get hungry. There will be no need for anyone to worry about eating, because concession stands will open at noon and a barbecue dinner plate, complete with all the trimmings, will be served starting at 6. Tickets to the blowout will be $5 in advance and $6 at the gate, with a $2 entertainment gate fee admission. But, this $2 fee can be redeemed for a meal ticket for those wanting to chow down on the BBQ plate. In addition, kittens will be given away at no charge. These balls of fur will be six to eight weeks old and have their shots. Advance tickets can be purchased from the Eagles Nest in Emmet, at Emmet City Hall or Faulkner's Body Shop. They can also be bought by calling 887-5049 or 887-5370. Those planning to attend need to bring their lawn chairs. In case of rain, the event will be moved into the Emmet School.
