Three Arkadelphia women were injured Saturday when the vehicle they were in was struck by a train.

According to reports from the Prescott Police Department, Mildred Johnson, 67, was crossing the railroad tracks at Highway 67 and Laurel Street in Prescott around noon Saturday, June 14.

For some reason, the vehicle was stopped on the track when the crossing gates came down. The oncoming train struck the car, demolishing it.

All three women in the car were injured. The other two were Gerien Newborn and Lovella Tatem.

The accident was originally worked by PPD Sgt. Tyrone Butler, with the investigation taken over by ASP Trooper Bobby Carlton.

CURFEW ENFORCED

Three juveniles found out the PPD is serious about enforcing the city's curfew ordinance, as they were picked up for violating it during the weekend.

Prescott Police Chief Willie Latin said his officers will be strictly enforcing the ordinance. "We're cracking down on juvenile's being out past the curfew," he said.

The curfew, passed by the Prescott City Council, states any youth 17 or under can't be out on the streets past 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, or midnight Friday or Saturday.

However, for those juveniles with night jobs, their parents or guardians can fill out a waiver so they can come and go without being stopped by police. But, these youths must go directly home from work and not "hang out" at public places.

Those arrested for violating the curfew can be fined as much as $100 and be given up to 10 days of public service.
