Whelen Springs Homemakers MeetPublished Wednesday, June 25, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThe Whelen Springs EHC met Thursday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the fellowship hall of the East Whelen Springs Baptist Church. Corine Stiffler gave the devotional with a reading from Mathew 6:19. Roll call was answered by 11 members and one guest with "Improvement begins with..." The majority answered with "myself". Kim Dickerson presented the program, `Community Resources for Families.' She handed a worksheet out for the members to complete, rating the assests of our community. Many agreed on where improvements could be made in our communities. She then told of several resources that were available for our families, (some that we were not aware of) and the key people to contact for the services. Robyn LeMay, a Hilltop 4-H Club member, then showed the members her bug collection that she'll be entering in the District O'Rama. She told about her accomplishments in 4-H and all the various things that 4-H has to offer to young kids today. The club's most recent project was to make bibs for the nursing home residents. There were 11 bibs turned in at the meeting. Others will be taken to Pineview Care Center as they are completed. Gail Hughes celebrated her birthday at the meeting. She was surprised by her secret pal with a cake and fresh flowers. Everyone present enjoyed helping Gail celebrate. Remember, as you're canning and making jellies, to set aside that jar that looks too good to be true and take it to the Clark County Fair in September. When the meeting was adjourned, Ruth Sullivan helped several club members cover picture albums with fabric. They all turned out looking great. Some plan to keep theirs while others plan to give them as gifts. The club has changed its monthly meeting time to 1:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. It still meet in the East Whelen Springs Baptist Church fellowship hall. An invitation is extended to anyone who would like to come out and spend the afternoon with the club. Don't forget to check your calendar for your secret pal's birthday or anniversary. Or you can make any day special for her, by letting her know that someone is thinking about her.
