Military NewsPublished Wednesday, June 25, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneNavy Petty Officer First Class Florence E. Toliver, whose husband, Jerry, is the son of Lewis and Sarah E. Toliver of Prescott, recently completed a six-month deployment to the Meditterranean Sea with Tactiscal Electronic Warfare Squadron 130 (VAQ 130), embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. As part of the USS Theodore Roosevelt's embarked air wing, Toliver's squadron was a major contributor in the air wing's mission. During Operation Deliberate Guard they flew missions in support of the U.N. mandated no- fly zone over Bosnia. They participated in Exercise Invitex 97-1, the largest exercise of the deployment and they also supported United Nations Resolution 661, which calls for importing and exporting sanctions against Iraq. Toliver also took part in exercises involving British, French, Israeli, Saudi Arabian and Tunisian military forces. VAQ 130, stationed at Whidbey Island, Wash., flies the EA-6B Prowler which is capable of jamming enemy radar and providing an umbrella of protection for stike aircraft and fround troops. During the deployment, Toliver visited France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Spain, Turkey and United Arab Emirates as well as traveling through the Suez Canal twice.
