Health Expo AttendedPublished Wednesday, August 18, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Boys to Men and Girls to Women (BM-GW) of Prescott attended the Children's Health Expo Saturday, July 31, at the Fair Park Coliseum in Hope from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There were approximately 50 young people in attendance and 14 adults. Ten vehicles were available for transportation. The expo involved such features as vision, hearing, ear and dental examinations, and water quality and purity demonstration. There were 50 educational and informational booths, which included nutrition, drugs, alcohol abuse, water safety, playground safety, fire safety, health education, bicycle safety and school readiness. There was also a demonstration on what can happen if seat belts are not worn while riding in an automobile. There were all sorts of entertainment, games, giveaways and door prizes. Martial art and self-defense demonstrations were given. Free juices, popcorn and much more were given to those in attendance. All the mentees, mentors, parents and guests had a wonderful experience. They learned a lot and had a lot of simple fun. This expo was planned and carried out by Pat Blake, planning specialist in Area 5 of the Arkansas Department of Health, with the assistance of several co-workers.
