City Of Gurdon Gets Three GrantsBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, July 2, 1997 in the Gurdon Times Hard work has paid off for the City of Gurdon as it has received $22,500 for a rescue unit. Gurdon Mayor Rick Smith said the city recently received a grant for $7,500 from the Rural Advocacy Commission to be used to help establish a rescue unit for South Clark County. The unit will be operated under the Gurdon Fire Department, headed by Chris Dulin. Those firefighters interested in learning how to perform rescues are being trained at this time. A total of nine members of the GFD have attended training sessions to learn how to use the rescue equipment. In fact, the jaws of life equipment Gurdon recently purchased was used last weekend to extricate a person in a fatal car accident. Other money for the rescue unit has come from the Ross Foundation, a grant for $5,000, and the Clark County Quorum Court, $10,000. City Recorder-Treasurer Tambra Smith, and Mayor's Assistant Mary Burns worked hard to get these grants, the mayor said. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
