Marisa Smyth, a 1999 graduate of Gosnell High School, has been awarded a technical scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. The scholarship is based on an ACT score and grade point average plus a recommendation from a school official.

Smyth is the daughter of Greg Smyth of Rosston and Sandra Melton of Cale. She will be pursuing an associate of applied science in business degree.

Shelly Renee Dalaughter Tatum, formerly of Prescott, joined 149 candidates for the bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, May 15.

Commencement exercises were held in the William F. Johnson Coliseum. Michigan Gov. John Engler delivered the address. Following the commencement address, Dan Angel, president of the university, presented diplomas to the graduates. Graduating cum laude, Tatum was among 21 College of Education students graduating with honors.

Tatum has accepted a position teaching third grade at Carpenter Elementary School in the Nacogdoches Independent School District. She and her son, Ty, live in Nacogdoches.

Among those attending from this area were Lynell and Joe Henry of Nash, Texas; Janie and Glyndon Franklin of Cale and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Singleton of Hope.

Southern Arkansas University Tech has announced its dean's and chancellor's list for the 1999 spring semester. Students on the chancellor's list carry a 4.0 grade point average. Those on the dean's list have a 3.5 to 3.9 GPA.

Named to the chancellor's list from Rosston are Shanika Allen, a computer programming major, and Carla Loe.

Registration for the fall term at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 23 and 24. Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 25.

Students must meet with their advisors prior to registration. Advisors will be available on the days of registration. Students new to SAU will need to complete the application process before registering for classes. Applications and fall schedules are available from the office of admissions in Nelson Hall.

SAU will try to meet the needs of students working full-time jobs by offering a number of class during the noon hour and at night.

Shuan Matthew McKamie of Prescott received a B.B.A. degree in business administration-finance from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia on August 6.

John Mark Butler of Rosston received a B.S. in agriculture business and Teresa Lynn House of Rosston graduated, with an M.Ed. in elementary education.
