Especially During Holiday WeeksBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, July 2, 1997 in the Gurdon Times Blood donors are needed to help the American Red Cross meet its summer blood needs. Colleen Nelson, donor recruitment representative for the Red Cross, told the Gurdon Rotary Club of the agency's needs for summer months. She said 300 units of blood are needed daily to maintain the supply in Arkansas' 54 hospitals. During the summer, Nelson said, more blood is needed because people are out and about more and there are more accidents requiring blood. She urged anyone who can give blood to do so, adding those with high blood pressure can donate if they have their hypertension under control and meet the other requirements. Those include weighing at least 110 pounds and being 17 or older. For each unit of blood donated, she said, three or four lives are saved. To help the Red Cross, a blood drive is being held in Gurdon at the Senior Adult Center Friday, July 11, from 3-7 p.m. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
