Jones Family Had Reunion In Santa FePublished Wednesday, July 9, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesSanta Fe, N.M., is a city that provides many excellent facilities for all types of meetings and it proved to be the perfect spot for the recent reunion of the decendants of the late Susie Nunn Jones and Clarborn (Clay) Jones of Gurdon. The family reunion held June 20-22 was planned and attended by Wanda Jones Goodman of Gurdon and Blenda Horton Jackson of Manning. A third promoter of this event, Bettie Jones Marsh, also of Gurdon was unable to attend. But 42 members from six states were there to enjoy the old fashion hand shaking, back slapping, bear hugging atmosphere, which seemed as natural as the adobe mix of mud and straw for that area. The Double Tree Hotel offered the touch of serenity the group required. Registration early Friday afternoon, June 20, was followed by an evening of informal visiting, reminiscing and review of the organized family photo gallery and a collection of more recent copies of The Gurdon Times. Specially designed T-shirts, `Keeping Up With the Joneses,' were distributed. The Saturday evening dinner was a tremendous success offering the opportunity for stimulating conversation, great story telling and to enjoy a bountiful feast of New Mexico cuisine. The unplanned Sunday brunch with full attendance was a good indication of how well the group had assimilated and of their reluctance to terminate "the good times." Three childen of Suzie and Clay Jones -- Irene Jones Milloway of Albuquerque, N.M., Relda Faye Jones Meeks of Hayden, Colo., and Richard Clay Jones of Valdasta, Ga., all former Gurdonites -- were there with other members of their families. Two other daughters, Louise Jones Crowder of Wilmington, Calif., and Mable Jones Ball of Gurdon, were unable to attend. Dale Jones of Gruver, Texas, and C.R. Milloway, of Albuquerque entertained the group with their picking and singing. Door prizes were won by everyone present. Others attending were Charles Goodman and daughter, Ashley, and Betty Jones from Gurdon, and Ken and Jean Brown of Arlington, Texas. Jean is the daughter of the late Arthur Jones and Fay Jones of Gurdon. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
