Huckabee Honors Williams

Booie Williams has been recognized by Gov. Mike Huckabee for her efforts during the March 1 tornado.

According to Jim Harris, with the governor's press office, Williams was nominated for the Service to Citizens Award because of the way she pitched in when the tornadoes ravaged downtown Arkadelphia on March 1. He said she drove 80 miles per day to help dig the Clark County Revenue Office out of the rubble and get it operational again.

Williams is the Southwest District Manager with the Arkansas Department of Revenue. She began working for the state in June 1994 at the Nevada County Revenue Office, working her way up to the district manager's position in Feb. 1997.

Harris said Williams is also active in the First Baptist Church of Prescott, where she teaches fifth and sixth grade Sunday school and is the church clerk. She also works with the Chicken and Egg Festival in Prescott, enjoys cross stitching, golf and talking about her granddaughter, Katherine.

"When she was six," he said, "she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has carried the spirit of survival to all facets of her life and demonstrates determination."

This award, Harris said, was created by Huckabee while he was Lt. Gov. A committee of volunteers selects the winner each month.

Williams was the June Service to Citizens Award winner.
