Joyce WestmorelandPublished Wednesday, July 9, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneJoyce Westmoreland, 56, of Prescott died Monday, July 7, 1997, at her residence in Prescott. She was born September 24, 1940, to the late Sam and Bell Smithpeters Russell of Gurdon. Mrs. Westmoreland was a sixth grade English and science teacher at Prescott Middle school. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Prescott, member of Delta Kappa Kamma, Gamma Beti Phi and Alpha Chi. She was honored as Teacher of the Year in May at the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce banquet. Survivors include her husband, Phillip Westmoreland of Prescott; five sons, Grant Westmoreland of Sheridan, Shane Westmoreland of Conway, Sam Westmoreland of Gurdon, Phil Westmoreland of Camden and Terry Westmoreland of Springdale; three brothers, Robert Russell of Gardenerville, Nev., James Russell of Terrell, Texas, and Tony Russell of Prescott; two sisters, Juanita Wells of Glendale, Ore., and Martha Williams of Prescott; and eight grandchildren. Services were Tuesday, July 8, at Central Baptist Church in Prescott with Revs. Tom Mitchell and Jerry Westmoreland officaiting. Burial was at Westmoreland Cemetery at Caney under the direction of Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church building fund.
