Board and staff members of nonprofit groups in Nevada County as well as other southwest Arkansas counties, have an upcoming opportunity to improve their skills and the effectiveness of their organizations.

Henderson State University (HSU) and Nonprofit Resources, a statewide organization that provides information and training to nonprofit groups, will co-sponsor a managing for excellence workshop July 24-25 at Garrison Center at HSU.

Supported by the Levi Strauss Foundation, the workshop is designed to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit groups to fulfill their missions. It includes information on board and staff development, strategic planning and fund development.

Herman Davenport, manager of community affairs for the Levi Strauss Foundation, said he promotes the workshops, because "I believe that we need to address the organizational infrastructure of the groups that make improvements in our local communities. Many have few opportunities to attend training to learn skills and best practices that will help them achieve their goals."

He emphasized the workshops will be conducted by "a cadre of Arkansas professionals in the nonprofit sector who are willing to share their expertise with organizations eager to learn."

Interested persons may contact Doris Wright at Henderson at 230-5089 or Bonnie Johnson at Nonprofit Resources at 374-8515.
