Marine Pfc. Randy L. Rosenbaum Jr., son of Randy L. Rosenbaum of Prescott, and Debroah Rosenbaum of Emmet, recently reported for duty with 3rd Supply Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support, Okinawa, Japan.

Rosenbaum's new assignment is an example of how navy and marine corps men and women are assigned to ships, squadrons and shore commands around the world. Whether serving in the Persian Gulf near Iraq or in the Adriatic Sea near Bosnia, people like Rosenbaum are making a difference as they work to improve their knowledge and skill as part of the most highly technical navy force in history.

The 1994 graduate of Blevins High Schol joined the marine corps in August 194.

Marine Pvt. Charles W. Rockett, a 1996 graduate of Prescott High School recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot near San Diego, Calif.

Rockett successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new marine recruits physically and mentally.

Rockett and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a.m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Rockett spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments, which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.

Rockett and other recruits also received instruction on the marine corps' core values -- honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.

Rockett and fellow recruits ended the training phase with the Crucible, a 54-hour team effort, problem solving evolution which culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the marine corps emblem, and were addressed as "Marines" for the first time since boot camp began.

Rockett joins 41,000 men and women who will enter the marine corps this year form all over the country.
