Arkansas' producers placed 23.6 million chicks for broiler production during the week ending June 28, according to the Arkansas Agricultural Statistics Service.

The week's placements were up 1 percent from the comparable week in 1996 and up slightly from the previous week.These percentages included 2.0 million chicks from other states. The cumulative total placements from December 29, 1996 marketing year through June 28,1997, were 619.5 million, up 2 percent aabove the 608.7 million placed during the same period a year earlier.

The total broiler hatch for the week was 24.9 million, up 2 per cent from the corresponding week a year earlier, and slightly below the previous week. Of the total broiler chicks hatched in the state 2.9 million were shipped out of the state.

Average hatchability for broiler-type eggs during the week was 83.0 percent.

Arkansas hatcheries set 29.2 million broiler-type eggs during the week ending June 28,1997,up 3 percent from the same period last year and 1 percent below the previous week.
