Titanic Exhibition In Memphis Is VisitedPublished Wednesday, July 23, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott Trailblazers went to Memphis, Tenn., Saturday, July 12, to see the Titanic Exhibition at the Pyramid. This is a world premier of the Titanic, the largest exhibition ever shown of objects recovered from the wreckage. It was April 14, 1912, that the Titanic sank in the cold North Atlantic waters. At 11:40 p.m. three bells were struck from the crow's nest of the Royal Mail Steamer Titanic, with the cry, "Iceberg right ahead!" relayed to the bridge. Two hours and forty minutes later, the largest most luxurious ocean liner in the world plunged bow-first two and one-half miles to the bottom of the ocean. There were about 2,206 persons on the maiden voyage of the ship. Over 1,500 people died in the sinking of the Titanic. Those making the trip to Memphis from Prescott were Sybil Sherman, Bobbie Gautsche, Howard and Jeanne Taylor, Allene Spencer, Virginia Easterling, Polly Phillips, Mary Johnson, Gertie Meador, Vernon Buchanan, Mary Eley, Pat Severns, Lois McCain, George Darrell and Vickie Glass, Evelyn Martindale, Juanita Taylor, Nell Avery, Bobbie Minor, Billie Ridling, Megan Vandiver, Cole Hillery, Ann Hill, Justin Hillery, Jodie Smith, Flo Brackman and Rhonda Hillery. Going from Gurdon were Ollie Jean Allen and Dorothy Jewell Scott. Iva Lee Davis of Sutton also went, as did Linda Powers and Jimmie and RaJohnia Tollett of De Queen, Terri Severns of Texarkana, James Ed and Wanda Martin of Hot Springs Village, and Kermit and Sarah Ward, Jimmie and Mary Moore, John and Terry Moore, Renee Thigpen, Thomas Moore and Charles Helms of Ashdown.
