Blood Drive SetPublished Wednesday, July 23, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Arkansas Region of American Red Cross Blood Services and the community of Prescott are sponsoring a blood drive Tuesday, July 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The blood drive will take place at Prescott Central Baptist Church located at East and 2nd. Red Cross depends on caring individuals to donate blood 365 days of the year. Accident victims, surgery patients, newborns, burn victims, cancer patients and many others depend on blood and blood products seven days a week. American Red Cross truly appreciates the dedication of the citizens of Prescott, who are committed in upholding their community responsibility of saving lives. The need for blood increased tremendously during the summer months. Many businesses do not host blood drives, because their work requires being in the heat all day, or they have numerous employees taking their vacations. High Schools, colleges and universities are also on summer break, halting blood drives for three months. Therefore, Red Cross has less opportunity to collect blood during the summer when the need is critical. Arkansas Region of American Red Cross has less opportunity to collect blood during the summer when the need is critical. Arkansas Region of American Red Cross provides the total supply of blood and blood products to 52 hospitals in 54 Arkansas counties. Each day, at least 300 units of blood must be collected to ensure hospitals have an adequate supply. If you are 17 years of age or older and weigh minimum of 110 pounds, give the gift of life for an Arkansas. For more information, contact American Red Cross at 1-800-448-3543.
