Tyler Garner won the wheelchair division with a time of 19:32. For the walkers, Jay McBay was first, completing the 3.1 mile course in 35:26. Dick Bledsoe followed with a time of 36:31, with Ken Cleveland third at 39:52. In the 0-10 boys race, Mark Purifoy won with a time of 34:51, while Chase Haynes was on his heels in second at 38:42. Nicky Dilwork's 30:56 was good enough for the 11-14 division. Kasey Knight ran a 19:05 for first place in the 15-19 bracket, while James Erwin was second at 20:15. The 20-24 slot was won by Wayne Cooper in 21:58, while David Stegall was second at 22:24. The 25-29 age group was won by Bob Seedlock's 19:07, with Mark Dismuke second at 20:50 and Andy Nelson third with a time of 21:53. Tim Dees won the 30-34 slot with a time of 20:02. Walter Abbott was second in 21:07, while Jeff Haynes was third in 22:41. In the 35-39 group, Tony Carver ran a 19:22 for first place, but had a narrow escape as Ricky Dennis was close behind in 19:52. Kim Howard was third with a 21:11. Longtime runner Don Still won the 40-44 division with a 20:00 flat. David Carver was next in 20:48, while Curt Burroughs was third in 21:08. Prescott's own Jim Westmoreland won the 45-49 group race with a 21:29, while Yankee was next in 21:55. James Barber was third in 22:32. No times were given for the 50-54 bracket, but Jesse Rucker was first and Glenn Haynie second. The 55-59 age group, though, saw Richard Engle cover the distance in 24:59, with Harry Brickle second at 29:34. Lynn Warner was third with a 30:25. Harold Wilson showed age was no handicap as he won the 60 and up category with a 19:57. Marvin Engles followed with a 22:49. For the women, Britney Copeland was the overall winner, covering the 5 kilometers in 22:01. Johnette Anderson was second in 22:07, while Debbie Crews showed with a 22:11 effort. Angela Stanford was the first lady walker to finish, while Angela Carver followed her for second and Shelly McBay finished third. Alex Haynes won the 0-10 running group with a 49:20. The 11-14 bracket was captured by Natalie Harrell's 24:04, while Hannah Woods was second in 29:50. The 15-19 segment was taken by Lindy Stevens and her 22:34 effort, with Lancey Pigeon second in 23:34. Aprile Richardson captured the title for the 20-24 group with a 29:23. Kendra Clark followed with a 31:50. Jeri Tibbit won the 30-34 group with a 26:53. In the 35-39 bracket, Cathy Holder won with a 26:19. Lesa Purifoy was next in 28:04, while Pam Herring finished third with a 30:01 effort. Kathy Glass won the 40-44 age group with her 24:27. Donna Carter came in second with a 29:19 effort, while Elaine Sharp was third in 31:04. Patricia Scott won the 45-49 slot in 25:21, while Lynda Roady was second in 26:50. The 50-54 group was won by Eva Warren's 26:39, with Anne Vermont finishing the race in 26:58. Sylvid Engle captured the 55-59 segment in 26:28, with Frances Haynes second with a time of 32:49. Tommye Daniel won the 60 and up division in 43:03, followed by Pat Newkirk's 45:38. In all, there were 93 runners competing in the 1997 version of the Chicken and Egg Festival 5K race.
