Lelia Darnyella Cornish

Lelia Darnyella (Pooh) Cornish, 17, of Gurdon died Sunday, July 21, 1997, in an automobile accident.

She was born May 24, 1980, in Lewisville. She was a sophomore at Gurdon High School, where she was also a member of the band, flagline, the Nutition advisory council, a member of the talent search, and selected into Who's Who's Among American Teens. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist at Stamps.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Janice Rucks Johnson and Jewel Johnson of Gurdon; her father, Terry L. Cornish of Stamps; two brothers, Dewayne L. Cornish of Stamps and Terry L. Cornish Jr. of Gurdon; two sisters, Demecia Cornish of Stamps and Wanda M. Cornish of Gurdon; a stepbrother, Reginald M. Johnson of Camden; paternal grandfathers, Murdis Cornish of Stamps and Jerry Johnson of Camden; grandmother, Josephine Russell; and a great grandmother, Maggie Golden, and great grandfather, Alford Golden, all of Okolona.

Funeral services were Friday, July 25, in the Gurdon Middle School auditorium with Rev. Rufus Hatley officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery at Stamps. Services were under the direction of Mitcell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
