POSSESSION BUSTS

Two Gurdon men were charged with simple possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia Friday, Aug. 6.

According to Sorrells, Martin was traveling east on Highway 24 when he noticed an oncoming vehicle with a headlight out. As it passed, he saw a taillight was also out on the pickup.

Martin turned around, stopping the truck at the intersection of Highways 24 and 53.

After getting the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle, a pat down search turned up a plastic bag of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the right front pocket of the driver's pants.

A search of the passenger also turned up a bag of a similar substance, only tucked away in a sock.

Martin then searched the truck, finding some rolling papers and an open beer.

Charles Card, 37, of Gurdon, and Robert Deaton, 30, also of Gurdon, were charged with simple possession of a controlled substance, namely marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deaton was also charged with drinking on the highway after admitting the beer was his.
