Stovall Turns 85 Today

Wednesday (today), August 13, 1997, Theron Stovall will celebrate his 85th birthday. He currently resides at Pineview Nursing Home in Gurdon.

Mr. Stovall was born the first son of Ola and Charles Stovall. He had a brother, Hays, who died a the age of 28. He has alwalys lived in Gurdon and watched as this town went from a small town to a thriving railroad town and eventually back to the small town again.

Stovall graudated from what now serves as the middle school, but was known in 1932 as Gurdon High School.

He served our country during World War II in five different countries: Germany, France, Sicily, Corsica and North Africa. He remembers a visit from someone who looked him up in the middle of Europe "just to say hello to the boy from Gurdon." That person was Austin Capps, who also was there serving his country.

He is proud to be an American as well as a citizen from Gurdon. Even at the age of 85, Mr. Stovall tries to stay up on current politics so that he knows what's happening in America and in the world today.

Mr. Stovall operated a Mobil Service Station in Gurdon for many years.

He married Thomaseen Hughes in the fall of 1973. They were married for 18 years until her death in 1992. He has nine stepchildren who think the world of him.
