UACCH Offers Counseling

Published Wednesday, August 13, 1997 in the Gurdon Times

The Student Services Department at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope will now stay open until 10 p.m. to accomodate night students.

Starting Monday, August 11, Student Services will offer counseling, asset placement tests and registration at night to meet the needs of increasing enrollment that is expected to approach 1,500, Floyd Young Jr., vice chancellor of Student Services, said.

"Almost one-third of our students attend classes at night and we're seeing an increased interest in night studies," Young said. "So we're expanding our services to meet the needs of our students. We want to do whatever is necessary to make it easy for anyone to get a college education," he said.

Student Services will now operate from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

Fall enrollment is now approaching 1,000 and administrators urge students to enroll as soon as possible, because classes are filling up.

"We're asking people not to wait until the last minute to enroll in college, expecially if they need to apply for financial aid," Young said. "One needs to prepare for college, and we're going to start staying open until 10 p.m. to help in that preparation."
